Frequently Asked Questions
Answers about the house, our sourcing, the work itself, shipping, and returns.
What is From The Andes?
From The Andes is a fashion house built on human-made artifacts. We sell alpaca apparel and a collection of objects sourced directly from artisans around the world. Maria Isabel Guerra founded the house in 1987, from a single suitcase, in Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico.
What do you sell?
Alpaca sweaters, cardigans, and outerwear. Folk art, ceremonial masks, textiles, and jewelry. The vlad.œuvre House private label. Most pieces are finite. Many are one of one.
How do you source your products?
We source directly from the artisans who make the work. No middlemen. That is how we hold the quality and how we know each piece is real.
Are your items handmade?
Yes. Nearly everything in the collection is handmade or small-batch. Expect natural variation. No two pieces are identical, and that is the point.
Will I receive the exact item shown?
Yes. For one-of-one and individually listed pieces, the item in the photograph is the item you receive.
Do you restock sold-out items?
No. When a piece sells, it is gone. Most of the collection is finite and does not return.
Why are your prices higher than other online stores?
The price reflects what the work is. Handmade, small-batch, bought direct from the maker. These are not disposable goods, and they are not priced like them.
Where do you ship from?
Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. We ship worldwide. Customers outside the United States are responsible for import duties, VAT, customs fees, and local taxes.
How quickly do orders ship?
Most orders ship within one business day. Orders placed after 12 PM Mountain Time, or on weekends and holidays, ship the next business day.
Which carriers do you use?
USPS or UPS, depending on the destination and the order. Every order ships with tracking, sent to the email address you provide at checkout.
Will Canadian orders face duties or tariffs?
Yes. Canadian customers are responsible for GST, HST, PST, brokerage fees, and any other import charges the carrier collects. From The Andes does not refund these.
What is your return policy?
Contemporary apparel may be returned or exchanged within 30 days of the shipment date. Limited-edition pieces, artifacts, and vlad.œuvre House editions must be returned or exchanged within 7 days of the shipment date.
Merchandise must be unworn, unwashed, and in original resalable condition with all tags and packaging.
Do you offer gift packaging?
Yes we do, just send us an email with the order number. vlad@shopfromtheandes.net
Why is your inventory limited?
Because we buy one maker at a time. We take what is good and we take it in small numbers. When it is gone, it is gone.
Are your pieces mass-produced?
No. Nothing in the collection is made at mass-market scale.
What makes From The Andes a house and not a shop?
A shop restocks. A house does not. Each piece is chosen by hand. Much of the collection exists as a single unit. What you see on the page is what arrives at your door. We are not built for volume.
